Thinking of doing something ethereal about connection through passing along food traditions. Sounds very familiar right?
Its going to be more centered around visuals but the general idea is a younger woman cooking bread with her mother. Every shot has them together in it. I was thinking of having a lot of white Christmas lights around the set to signify... something. They are going to be having mother daughter moments.
The end is going to be the woman taking out the bread from the oven and she is alone. This will be the first shot where we see her alone in the frame.
This is at the concept stage so feel free to shout some crazy ideas out.
No dialogue allowed but voice over is.
So the idea is that the mother is actually dead, I mean "passed," and the woman is remembering a time when she baked bread with her?
ReplyDeleteNo lights when the bread comes out of the oven?
Woman's daughter comes into the kitchen after the bread comes out of the oven. Christmas lights go back on.
Yeah I wanted to do something like that but no kids are allowed. We have a 100 dollar budget and studio teachers (required by CA labor laws) are $300 a day.
DeleteI think dialogue between the mother/daughter would be better, but you could have the voiceovers taking care of communication. The bread could signify happiness and togetherness. The family always gathers around when they smell the delicious fragrance coming from the oven. It grows from the two of them baking bread, to the aunts, cousins, extended family members and so on and the lights come on and glow when the bread is made and served. They start to bring in just butter at first, then as the breadmaking tradition spreads, some add jams, jellies, apple butter, herbs, peanut butter and the lights in kitchens are hanging everywhere, they are like spider webs, more and more, coming out of the ceiling over the cupboards, onto the counter, but the bread goes on. If you bring death into it, hmmmm, seems like it wouldn't fit but bread rises as does the soul up to heaven (?)
ReplyDeleteOoo very nice.
