This is a short inspired by Richard Brautigan's short story/poem, "Coffee." It is very simple and will only be one shot.
We have a tight shot on a table with a womans hands. Two coffee cups come into view that are set there by a mans hands.
The idea is that we will be told the story of a relationship over the years through only the action of the hands.
Another action after the cups being set down may be the guys hands nervously drumming the table and then slowly creeping over to the woman's hands. She may play hard to get. But then they will eventually be holding hands. They may have a fight. The coffee may spill but then the woman might offer the man some of her coffee and pour it in his cup from her own cup.
I was thinking the end would be both of the cups are empty and they are kind of sitting there bored and then two little espresso cups come into the shot.
It needs more and any emotions or life situations that can be added are welcomed. I also am trying to think of a better idea for the ending because all of my stories seem to be "cute."
Very Zen.
ReplyDeleteIn that vein, I was thinking about focusing on the ritual that goes into two people having coffee in a restaurant. Whose hands are pouring the cream and sugar. etc. Who serves whom. The modern western version of a Japanese Tea Ceromony.
I was wondering if the hands exchange anything mysterious or otherwise, or if either of them was doing something distracting. One set of hands texting incessantly or typing on a laptop, ignoring the other set of hands. The other set of hands seeking attention and being rebuffed.
Paper, stones, and scissors.
What are the props?
ReplyDeleteWhat about intimidation and aggression rather than conversation?
ReplyDeleteYou could show the hands exchanging birthday cards, the other hand reciprocates a valentines day card, the other a christmas present, the other a New Years blowy shiny thing, the other a necklace, the other an anniversary present, the other a valentines...etc, etc, but the shots get faster and faster and sped up until its like flipping cards motion, idk what it would be called in film, but like a clicking through the presents and the last shot could be the present of a ring.
ReplyDeleteOohhh, I like that idea of shots getting faster and faster.
ReplyDeleteI'm liking all of these ideas. That's what I was looking for really, more stuff that could happen. I do want to keep it a single shot though...
